Why we revised N10.8tr 2020 Budget — Buhari

President Muhmmadu Buhari has cited the need to cushion the harsh socio-economic realities occasioned, by the outbreak of coronavirus, as well as meeting the health challenges posed by the situation, as reasons for reviewing the 2020 Budget.

President Buhari explained his reasons for proposing the Appropriation (Repeal and Amendment) Act, 2020, at the State House yesterday during the signing of the new budget which was passed by the National Assembly in June, however, revealed that ministries, departments and agencies would be given 50 per cent of their capital allocations by the end of the month.

News: IGP orders mobile police commanders to replace men posted to EFCC offices

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Friday, directed the immediate replacement of all policemen posted from the police mobile force to serve, at offices of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) nationwide.

The directive which was contained in a signal signed by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), to Police Mobile Force Squadrons one to 79, and copied to the IGP, the Force Secretary and Commissioners of Police of all the state commands, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ordered the withdrawal of the policemen. It also directed that, the number withdrawn to be replaced with the exact number of new operatives.

Other Nigerians on the list in recognition of their contributions towards fighting the pandemic, include the founder/Chairman, Globacom, Mike Adenuga, the late founder of Elizabeth R events, Ibidunni Ighodalo, the chairman of BUA Group, Abdul-Samad Rabiu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, and social entrepreneur and founder of LifeBank, Temie Giwa-Tubosun, and the founder of the first air ambulance service in West Africa, Flying Doctors Nigeria, Dr. Ola Orekunrin-Brown.

News: NEMA to governors: prepare for flooding, 28 states, 102 LGs may be affected

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has said 102 local government areas (LGAs) in 28 states of the federation are more prone to flooding this year, as the impact of the flooding in the states, the agency said it had written to the state governors to prepare.

The agency said, the letter indicated the areas that would be affected, adding that it highlighted the steps to be taken to reduce the impact of the flooding.

News: Lagos asks court to dismiss suit challenging Funke Akindele’s conviction

The Lagos State Government has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos, to dismiss a suit challenging the conviction of actress, Funke Akindele, her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, and 236 others.

Akindele, alias Jenifa, Bello and the others were arrested for violating the state’s lockdown and social distancing order, to check the spread of COVID-19, Funke and Bello, in particular, were convicted on April 6, 2020 by an Ogba Magistrates’ Court, days after they held a crowded house birthday party, in violation of the social distancing order.

News: Edo: Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu clash over N20bn loan for campaign claim

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, for the September 19 election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, on Friday alleged plan by his counterpart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Godwin Obaseki, to obtain a N20 billion loan to fund his campaigns.

Ize-Iyamu, in a statement through his campaign organisation’s Director of Communication and Media, Prince John Mayaki, accused the governor of draining the state treasury with a N15 billion payout to PDP chieftains for the party’s governorship ticket.

News: Ondo: APC screens out Tinubu’s man, Segun Abraham

An Ondo guber aspirant, who purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms for the July 20 Governorship primary election, has been disqualified by the Governorship screening Committee, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was gathered that, the affected aspirant is a member of the Bola Tinubu political camp, Dr Segun Abraham, while Chairman of the Ondo Guber screening committee, Alhaji Tijani Tumsa while submitting the committee report to the Caretaker committee Chairman said, each aspirant was rated based on their education, presentation, educational qualifications etc.

News: Nigeria records 575 COVID-19 cases, total now 31,323

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Friday, announced that the country has recorded 575 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections in Nigeria to 31,323.

The NCDC disclosed this on its verified Twitter handle on Friday night, as 575 new confirmed cases and 20 deaths, were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

News: FG proposes to spend ₦11.8tr in 2021

After activating the 2020 budget implementation, the Federal Government has proposed to spend ₦11.86 trillion in 2021.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, made this revelation while presenting the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) 2021-2023 in Abuja on Friday.

Notwithstanding this adventurous spending projection, Zainab Ahmed also stated that, the country’s fiscal futures will suffer a deficit of ₦5.16 trillion, because of the government’s projected ability to generate only ₦6.98 trillion revenue all in 2021.

Interestingly, while the Naira has been devalued to ₦380/$, the minister of finance has pegged exchange rate in the 2021 fiscal year at ₦360/$.
